Dexter R-XI is seeking a candidate for a Refocus Room at Southwest Elementary School for the 2025-2026 school year. The goal of the refocus room is to provide a safe space in the school to address student behaviors and preserve the learning environment. The teacher will be responsible for working with the Behavior Interventionist to implement behavior plans, teach and work with students on their grade level assignments, and provide restorative teaching activities and lessons to help our young students learn appropriate behaviors and decrease the potential for continued disruptive behaviors that impact the learning of themselves and others.
Potential candidates should possess a current teaching certification in Special Education or Elementary Education.
Candidates should be aware that position expectations would include: taking and tracking data, participating in continued professional development and annual restraint and de escalation certification, as well as working and frequently communicating with the Behavior Interventionist, school administration, parents, and student teams to implement plans to help grow each struggling student as whole.
Starting teacher pay is $40,000, and salary is based upon years of experience and education. This is a 178-day contracted position with employee Board-paid insurance and benefits. Additional information about the district can be found at www.dexter.k12.mo.us.
